Megastar Mammootty mass entertainer Masterpiece released. Masterpiece is a 2017 Indian Malayalam language action thriller film directed by Ajai Vasudev and written by Uday Krishna. Megastar Mammootty in the lead role, Masterpiece, which has been tagged as an out-and-out mass entertainer, is definitely high on expectations. The trailer of the film promised it to be a real big treat for all the Malayalam film audiences.

Story

The film is set in Travancore Maharaja's College, which has two groups - Real fighters and Royal Warriors. The gangs engage in brutal fights, using hockey sticks and cricket bats. A new professor lands on the campus and he is like no other they have encountered, so far.

Actors performance

Mammootty's character, college professor Edward Livingston will have a key role to play in setting things straight. Mammootty plays his role with dedication, he even played the action sequences like a vibrant youngster. Unni Mukundan looks stylish, but maintains a single expression all along. Poonam Bajwa has to look glamorous. The much hyped entry of Santhosh Pandit barely makes an impact. Gokul Unnikrishnan's role in the film was in the predictable lines. He has done a decent job as the naive Unnikrishnan, but still, there are rooms for improvement for this young actor. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar gets into the shoes of a police officer and she gets to play a neatly written role. Mahima Nambiar has done her part well in a short-yet-important role. As usual, Kalabhavan Shajon has done a good job with his portrayal of a police officer. Mukesh essays a crucial role. Lena, Kailash, Nandu etc., have come up with a decent performance.

Technically

It is pretty clear that Udayakrishna’s script has been used by the director to eulogize his hero. The storyline of the film has everything in it for a mass entertainer.  Deepak Dev is handled Music and BGM. The songs of the film have turned out to be pretty average ones. At the same time, the BGM suits the mood of the film pretty well.

The initial portions of Masterpiece don't offer anything special and thus testing the patience of the audience. But, with the arrival of Mammootty's Edward Livingstone, the film picks up pace and from then, the audiences get to experience a ride with Mammootty ruling the screens. In fact, the second half of the film works better than the first half, with the movie getting into the core storyline. The suspense and twist elements might turn out to predicatble ones who have seen films of this genre in the past. Masterpiece is a film purely meant for its genre lovers. Masterpiece has Mammootty as the big 'Master' in top form.

Better second half but overall a useless mass movie. Same old stuff. Once again same pattern movies from Mammootty. Need to forget the fans and should start doing good movies. Its ok to do odd mass movie like Big B2 but this is very sad. #Masterpiece

Average movie ..a 1 hr movie dragged into more than 2 and half hour .climax of the movie was good .If the movie was released in telugu it will become megahit.100 cr sure if released in Andhra...reminds me of NBK action at the climax fight
