Sanju Movie Review: Brilliant Storytelling by Rajkumar Hirani. Ranbir is the soul and Vicky the heart of the movie.
The much-awaited movie of Ranbir Kapoor “Sanju” has released today 29 June 2018. The movie is directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The star cast includes Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kaushal, Jim Sarbh, Dia Mirza and Boman Irani.
The movie is a biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. Paresh Rawal plays the role of Sunil Dutt (Father of Sanjay Dutt) and Manisha Koirala as Nargis Dutt. The excellence of the film lies in the performance of the stars and brilliant way of storytelling and filmmaking by Rajkumar Hirani.
Sanjay Dutt is a flawed figure and his life is eccentric. Rajkumar Hirani tries to display that in the movie at its best. In the beginning, the movie mainly focuses on his relationship with his father, his best friend and with media. In the biopic of Sanjay Dutt media plays an integral part. The film tries to question the media for publishing factually incorrect stories about Sanjay Dutt.
The first half mainly focuses on Sanjay Dutt drug phase in his life and his battle with it. The family plays an important role in his battle with drugs. The story moves forward with his involvement in Mumbai 1993 bomb blast and Arms Act Case.
Ranbir Kapoor has done a fantastic performance in the film as Sanjay Dutt. He has gone into the skin of the character and performed brilliantly. After a few scenes, we forget Ranbir Kapoor, and will only look at him as Sanjay Dutt. The scenes between Ranbir Kapoor and Paresh Rawal are really impressive and will make us cry. Manisha Koirala has a strong screen presence, she still holds the screen like no one else. Anushka Sharma as the biographer, Sonam Kapoor, Boman Irani, Diya Mirza and Jim Sarbh have done their roles well.
But the movie belongs to 3 people, Firstly “Rajkumar Hirani”. The way he narrates the story, the deft direction, and his ability to make us laugh and cry at the same time makes the movie stand a class apart from other movies. Secondly, “Ranbir Kapoor”. He has lived as Sanjay Dutt in the movie. Ranbir Kapoor is the soul of the movie. The surprise performance has come from the third person, “Vicky Kaushal”. Vicky is the heart of the movie. Without any doubt, this is his best performance till date.
The movie tries to establish the fact that Sanjay Dutt is not a terrorist and his bad boy image is due to the false media reporting. The movie humanizes larger than life persona of on-screen Sanjay Dutt. The film will surely make a mark at the box-office. The hype and pre-release booking are good for the movie. With good direction, storytelling and acting by the star cast the movie will be a blockbuster at the box office.
NB: Sanjay Dutt makes a cameo at the end. It will be surely a treat for everyone to watch real and reel dance on-screen.
