Theevandi is a Malayalam Movie starring Tovino Thomas, newcomer Samyuktha Menon, Surabhi Lakshmi, Rajesh Sharma, Suraaj Venjarammoodu and Shammi Thilakan in pivotal roles. The movie is directed by debutant director Fellini T. P.
Theevandi is a simple movie set around a guy addicted to smoking and the life and incidents around him. Theevandi is a feel-good movie with a runtime just above 2 hrs. The movie is all about Bineesh Damodaran (Tovino Thomas) who is a cool loveable boy next door who is addicted to smoking. The movie further shows his connection with cigarette smoke right as he stepped into the world, and through his teens where he starts to get addicted to smoking. But at a certain point in his life, he is forced to leave it and start thinking about things other than smoking. Will he overcome his addiction, where is he leading to? The movie deals with these questions.
The 2nd half of the movie slows down a bit and also shows the political drama in the village. The hero is forced to get involved in it. On the Performance end, Tovino Thomas steals the show with his brilliant performance. He plays the role of a seasoned smoker effortlessly. He portrayed his character with ease, his body language, emotions, and the desperations of a smoker was remarkable. Female lead Samyuktha Menon (Devi) who plays the love interest of Tovino in the movie has shown total justice to her character. Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saiju Kurup, and others make us laugh and entertain. Saiju Kurup's role needs a special mention as he entertains us a lot in the movie. The music and certain dialogues of the movie a well-crafted that it will surely win the applause of the audience. Jeevamshamayi song was pure bliss.
Debutant Director Fellini T. P. need to be appreciated for dealing with a serious topic in a humorous way. The music by Kailas Menon and Cinematography by Gautham Shankar needs a special mention as well. In short the film that will leave you with a smile when the end credits start rolling. Theevandi – A Feel good one with some serious social message.
